Improvisational theatre or improv is a form of unscripted theatre. Scenes are created entirely on the spot and are usually inspired by audience suggestions. Improv is very popular in Canada, the United States, Britain and Australia.
Meags Fitzgerald originally hails from Edmonton, where for years she improvised with Rapid Fire Theatre and Die-Nasty the Improvised Soap Opera. While in Calgary, she played at Loose Moose Theatre and regularly guested with The Kinkonauts. During a love affair with Toronto, she performed with Ghost Jail Theatre, PROJECTProject and Catch23.
Meags has been active with the Canadian Improv Games for the last eight years, where she has trained high school students across the country. Every summer she is an instructor at the ImprovCamp and was happy to be an instructor at the first ever ImprovCamp of Australia in the summer of 2009.
Meags is continually searching for ways to combine her visual and performing arts interests. As an artist in residence at improv festivals she creates "improv art" on stage based on audience suggestions. Typically the art is displayed throughout the festival and sold as souvenirs. She is lined-up to be the artist in residence for more festivals in 2009 and 2010.
